Dear Professor:

I have just received a detailed letter from Mrs. Riviere which seems to clear up all the questions very satisfactorily,  and I am writing to her accepting all her proposals without reserve.  Incidentally it was plain from her letter that I was right in suspecting that your accusations (of cutting down her position and functions, of not letting her correct my revision of her Ms, etc.) were pure misapprehension; there was nothing but the fear that I might do so in the future.  I hope now, however, that we shall prove to each other by experience that we can trust each other fully.  I hope also that this happy ending will have a beneficial effect on the rest of her analysis and that you will be able to start on your holidays with the feeling of having accomplished a difficult task successfully.

I have been thinking over your suggestion of a little time ago that I should find some official position for Rickman and Strachey.  The former has no great gifts for literary work, but it might be well, if I offered him a Co‑Directorship with myself of the Press.  What do you think of this?  The Strachey problem is not so easy to solve at the moment, but it appears less urgent.  He has done no work for the «MDUL»Journal«MDNM», or very little, is not even a member of any society, and will probably, so he writes me, not be in England next winter.  So perhaps this can wait for further developments.

I am sure you are impatiently waiting for the end of this session's laborious work, and I warmly hope that you will get every benefit from the change and leisure awaiting you.

With my kindest regards  yours always  Ernest Jones
