Dear Professor,

«IP4,0»I want to say how glad I was to see you, better than I had been led to expect, and so full of the keenest activity and interest ‑‑ also to thank you for devoting time and trouble to me at such a juncture, for which I was very grateful.  It will all be very helpful in orienting my views further, and I am sure I made plain to you how I stand in the whole matter.

On leaving Vienna I saw in «MDUL»The Neue Freie Presse«MDNM» the news that you had received what we call the freedom of the City of Vienna.  It is high time for Vienna to do something to recognise its most distinguished citizen, and I hope it gave you some pleasure.«FN1.××Freud received the honour of «MDUL»Bürgerrecht«MDNM», see Jones (1957a, p. 102; 1957b, p. 107).

We are finding interesting by‑ways in Veneto and have just got back to the beaten track at Padua.  Conegliano is a spot I can recommend in spring or autumn.

I will not tire you with a longer letter at present, but I trust we shall remain in good contact when I am back in London.  I have thought over the many interesting things you told me, and find naturally that there are still some points in the same connection on which I should be grateful for your opinion.

I was so happy to find you so active, dear Professor, and only regret you should still have some disagreeable troubles.  My keenest wish is that they will get less.

With all my warmest regards  Yours always affectionately  Ernest Jones
