«FL»Dear Professor,
«IP4,0»Thank you for your letter about the Congress, etc. I am writing at the moment in reference to your last sentence about the new «MDUL»Vorlesungen«MDNM» being ready for printing, to ask your views about translation. As I have explained to you before, England and America are for scientific publications as inseparable as Germany and Austria. Every publisher in both countries reckons on the sale in both countries, and it is the rarest thing in the world to find a publisher in either country who would consent to publishing a scientific book if the sale was restricted to one country. That means in effect that the book can either be translated and published in America or England, but not in both. I need hardly say that we are prepared to undertake the work of making a first class translation ‑‑ an offer which I do not think you can honestly receive from America ‑‑ and should esteem it an honour to be allowed to include the volume in our International Psycho‑Analytical Library series, the only one that exists in English ‑‑ as the Verlag series are the only ones that exist in Germany. If you agree to this perhaps you would also mention any wishes about the financial terms, which you may be sure we will do everything to meet.
With kindest regards, Yours always, Ernest Jones.
