Dear Friends:Claparède is here this week lecturing at the London University, and I have seen
something of him. He thinks of coming to the Congress in September. Baudouin, who has
been analysed by Saussure, has set himself the goal of combining Freud and Coué!I gave a lecture on Symbolism this week before the Tooting Neurological Society,
the staff of the only remaining War Shock hospital. They are all in various stages of
assimilating Psa, the most advanced being Miller, of course a Jew.I should like to extend the question I put last time about the abstracting of the
literature (à propos Tannenbaum), especially as there seem to be some divergences bet-
ween the practice of the Z and J. I review all books sent in, out of consideration
for the publishers, and also those for which I ask (on Psa), but I had not thought of
abstracting articles unless they dealt, in whatever fashion, with Psa. On the contrary
some of the recent numbers of the Z resemble rather a Zentralblatt für Psychiatrie.
How far afield should we go in such matters? My own view is that we should aim at
completeness as a Zentralblatt für Psa, so that readers could be sure that nothing on
this subject escaped us.The University of London, in combination with the Jewish Historical Society, has
arranged a series of lectures on five Jewish philosophers, Philo, Maimonides, Spinoza,
Freud, and Einstein. The one on Freud is to be given by Israel Levine, lecturer on
philosophy at Exeter, and he has sent me in advance his MS for correction. I enclose
the syllabus for circulation. As Abraham points out, the alteration in the date of writing that I suggested, is

too slight to be worth while.
Vienna. Meyer’s translations of the French articles are bad and I must re-write them.
As to the question of publishing my Madonna article in English, I have obtained the
opinion of a special Counsel through the Authors’ Society, and he says it does not
offend against the Blasphemy Laws so that no prosecution is to be feared. Of course
there is always the possibility of a prosecution for indecency, but this applies
equally to all psa books and is not very likely.I have not heard any account of the meeting at Professor’s a fortnight ago on
the subject of editing the J. If any definite suggestions were made I should like
to know about them.Yours cordially
Ernest Jones.
