August 3rd 1922
Dear Friends,
My address after August 12th till the Kongress will be Elsted, nr. Midhurst Sussex. I am taking several patients to the country and shall be able to continue with the Journal work, though not with the Press. I shall arrive in Berlin on Thursday the 21st Sept.
The Stekel-Tannenbaum Psyche and Eros, having annihilated all Freud’s theories, is being converted into the Journal of Sexology and Neo- Psychoanalysis, in conjunction with Robinson, an urologist.
Oberndorf tells me that Tridon is threatening to bring a libel action against the New York editors on account of my paragraph in the Journal concerning MacCann.
Mrs Rivière, Dr Rickman and Mr Strachey have returned from Vienna, and we are all busily co-operating over the Sammlung and Journal work. Eitingon, Abraham and I are arranging the Congress programme, which goes smoothly, a copy will shortly be circulated. Abraham suggests that I ask Frau Doktor Spielrein to read her paper in German instead of French, so as to confine the Congress to two languages. Against this, however, is the fact that Dr Piaget is speaking also in French, and personally I think we should encourage the French speaking countries, especially now that they are beginning to take some serious interest in analysis. Abraham also informs me that the Munich group will probably apply for admission to the Association at the Congress. He is against admitting them and I agree with him, but the technique of procedure had better be discussed at the Vorkongress on the Sunday morning. I will invite Oberholzer and Van Emden to this. Do you think that the various secretaries should also at- tend? I think it would be better.
Heft 2 of the Journal has arrived. I now hear that Hiller has been ill with bronchitis and as his secretary is away he must be hard worked.
I have written to Wulff and told him that as the Congress is so near in time, I am postponing the question of the admission of the Russian group till that date.
Abraham. In my opinion Frink and Kardiner2 are the two best men in New York to recommend patients to.
With best wishes to all for enjoyable holidays Yours cordially,
Ernest Jones
