February the 15th, 1923

Dear Friends:

First let me express my personal sympathy with Ferenczi on the loss of such a
valuable member and friend. Of the three most severe losses that Psa has yet suffered
through death two have struck the Hungarian group directly. I enclose in the Berlin
letter a letter to the Hungarian Society from the Central; if Abraham approves of
it will he be good enough to sign it and post it.

In my urgent letter of January 11th I outlined the ambitious plan we have of
forming a new company to conduct the Press, and asked for criticisms or approval
before we proceeded. No mention was made of it in the answering Rundbriefen, but
since then I have had a private letter from Rank saying that he intended writing
to Rickman on the matter giving his agreement. So we shall proceed at once, as for
several reasons the question is pressing.

There is no other news from here. Stimulated by a bad discussion on the sub-
ject of Auto-Suggestion at a recent meeting of the B. Psych. Soc., I am trying to
compose a paper on it, but I am finding it very hard, for the topic leads to very
obscure problems.

I was extremely interested in Abraham’s news of the Chinese translation, for
from what we hear here of the Renaissance of thought in modern China I should
judge it a country in which Psa would spread widely and rapidly; the Verlag must
be awake to the possibilities, though we can hardly expect Rank to add a Chinese
section to his other burdens at present! By the way, does not “Herz-Kraft”
not correspond rather to Libido than to Unconscious?
 

Budapest. I did not form my doubts about Eder solely on an intimate knowledge, but
also on what I know from personal analysis, so I hope you will reserve your final
judgement until you have seen more of him. He returns this week to Budapest.

Vienna. Perhaps Eitingon will give his opinion whether there might be a chance in
Paris for Dr Spielrein, who should know French well. The French franc will surely
fall considerably in the next few months (for ever)!
