    Dear Friends:

The delay in this letter, due to a series of nightly committee meetings, en-
ables me to answer after having received the latest news, including the Oct. 15
Rundbrief from Berlin. We are surely all equally elated at the brilliant news from
Vienna. That the operation would be successful I was confident, but I dared not
expect that the immediate effects would be otherwise than most painfully distressing.
Professor has now the consoling reflection that the worst lies behind him and that
every day is a step nearer to his former activity.

Last night Miss Chadwick read a very good paper, with excellent material and a
few good ideas, unfortunately not well arranged. Essentially it was a study of the
fate of the impulse in men to bear a child, and its consequences in his attitude
    towards women.

Last week I gave the opening address of the course of lectures before the Sociol-
ogical Society. There were about 150 present, and over 50 were turned away from
lack of space. Glover had a similar audience on Tuesday. The Sub-Committee of which
I wrote last time has decided to arrange a course of weekly lectures from January,
designed especially for medical practitioners and students, six to be given by
Jas. Glover on the Theory of Psa and six by myself on its Practice; they are of
course under the direct auspices of the Society. The President of the Royal
Anthropological Institute has invited me to read a paper on the relation of Psa to
anthropology, which I am to do in March. (This news, l. Sándor, is likely to
interest Róheim.) That will open up a new circle in England, where much opposition

is to be expected, especially from the Rivers school (Elliot Smith, etc).
My Essays are at last on the market, and we are expecting the reviews with
some trepidation, on account of the obscenity and blasphemy laws. Were you able,
    l. Otto, to send round copies to members of the Committee while they were still in
Vienna? Perhaps you can tell me who exactly has copies. You will remember my asking
    you about June.

Berlin. I cordially agree with the suggestion that we accept the Russian group at
once and enclose the necessary form. If you and the others agree, l. Karl, perhaps
you will also sign it and despatch it to Wulff.

I should be interested to know who exactly authorises in Berlin the extra-
Society courses of which you speak in the latest Rundbrief. Is there a special
committee for such purposes, or does it come under the Lehr-Anstalt or the Executive
    of the Society?

Vienna. Enclosed is a long letter on the exact state of the Press.
About the Zeitschrift, I should vote that the numbers be mixed.

Scientia of Oct. 1 brings a paper from Bianchi on La Psicanalisi, of course negative.

    With all good wishes,
                           Ernest Jones
