    Moses
    and Monotheism

    By SIGMUND FREUD

    8s. 6d.

This eagerly awaited book by the most
    distinguished of the refugees from
Austria who have recently found a new
home in our country will be of equal
interest to the general reader and the
    student of psycho-analysis. It contains
    Professor Freud’s latest speculations on
certain aspects of religion. From an
intensive study of the Moses legend he
has come to the startling conclusion
that Moses himself was an Egyptian
who brought from his native country
the religion he gave to the Jews. Pro
fessor Freud accepts the hypothesis that
Moses was murdered in the wilderness,
but that his memory was cherished by
the people and that his religious doc
    trine ultimately triumphed. He bases
on this a general theory of monotheism
which may well prove to be of great
importance for a student of comparative
    religion.

The picture on the jacket is a
    photograph of Michael Angelo’s
statue of Moses (by kind permis
    sion of The Warburg Institute).
