Psychology

Analysis
of the
Ego
JUST as the significance of dreams has been made clear by
Dr. Freud through the process of psychoanalysis, so has the
relationship of the individual to the group been clarified by
Dr. Freud in this book, “Group Psychology and The Analysis
of the Ego.”
Starting with Le Bon, the first scientific commentator on the
subject of crowd psychology, and examining the theories of Trotter
and McDougall, Dr. Freud subjects the concept of herd or social
instincts to a deeply probed analysis. Among the subjects dis-
cussed are those of suggestion, hypnosis, and being in love. So
original and courageous is Dr. Freud’s treatment of this subject
that the book will rank as one of the most important contributions
ever made to our knowledge of the relationship of the individual
to group or social psychology. Already Dr. Freud’s findings are
beginning to serve as the starting point for a whole series of further
researches into this important subject.
