Autobiography
By SIGMUND FREUD
Perhaps no one man has exerted so powerful
an influence on contemporary thought as
has Sigmund Freud. His theories have be-
come part of the texture of our times and
have left their impress on almost every field
of ideas, popular as well as scientific. Begin-
ning with The Interpretation of Dreams, a
series of books appeared elaborating
Freud’s discoveries, which aroused ever
more violent storms of criticism and praise.
Gradually controversy has given ground
before the growing recognition of Freud’s
contributions to an understanding of human
nature. With the assurance, therefore, of its interest
for a large body of readers, announcement
is made of a new, enlarged and revised edi-
tion of Freud’s autobiography, first published
in 1925. For this new edition, Dr. Freud has
prepared a Postscript which brings his life
and work down to the present day. Now
made available for the first time in English
as an independent book, this is at once a
personal record of absorbing interest and a
most valuable account, by its founder, of the
whole course of the psychoanalytic move-
ment.Price $2.00

introductory lectures
on psycho-analysisSIGMUND FREUD again speaks:
“Ladies and Gentlemen—After a silence of more than fifteen years,
I have brought you together again in order to discuss with you the
new developments, or it may be improvements, which have taken
place in psycho-analytic theory during the interval. From more than
one point of view it is right and proper that we should turn our
attention, in the first place, to the theory of dreams. This theory
occupies a peculiar position in the history of psycho-analysis; it
marks a turning-point. With the theory of dreams, analysis passed
from being a psycho-therapeutic method to being a psychology of
the depths of human nature.” With these words Dr. Freud opens
his new book. Thus in his first chapter he re-writes his theory of dreams, and
follows this chapter with one devoted to dreams in relation to occult
phenomena. The table of contents below suggests how he has set
about bringing his original work up to date, and how much new
material he has added. Particularly interesting is the chapter on The
Psychology of Women, being Freud’s own interpretation of one of
the most controversial subjects in modern psycho-analytical theory.
In a final chapter he brings the whole work to a climax in presenting
his philosophy of life.TABLE OF CONTENTS
