Dear Professor:
«IP4,0»I return to London full of inspiration for the great work in front of us, and on which I think we may build high hopes. Hiller, my faithful assistant, is very enthusiastic, and we trust the congress will empower us to act independently of any intermediary publisher, and we can also start a central «MDUL»Vertriebsstelle«MDNM» [distribution outlet], there being no good place here to buy |×/ books without previous ordering. I am confident we shall need no financial assistance from B'pest for our «MDUL»Journal«MDNM» or Bibliothek, for we can manage either by endowments here or by forming a guarantee fund by subscription. I am told that the greater part of my second edition (Papers) has been sold already, within four months.«FN1.××Jones, «MDUL»Papers«MDNM», 2nd ed. 1918.» That gives an idea! So you can concentrate Freund's power on the German and French movements.
Now I have what I think is an important idea, born of my five years' isolation. The Committee exists not only to direct the external side of the |×/ movement, but also to coordinate the internal, scientific side, and so I hold it highly desirable that a couple of weeks before the Congress we have a private congress of our own for about a week, to discuss (1) plans and programmes ready to be submitted to the Congress, etc., and (2) purely scientific problems of a more difficult and technical nature than those usually discussed in public. Remember that e.g. Abraham and I have not been in close touch with you, and how important it is to be quite clear amongst ourselves and so present a united front. (Unity of command; the great cry of the Entente for the last two years!).
I pray that things will soon be going better with you.
Yours affectionately Ernest Jones.
