Dear Professor Freud,

«IP4,0»Your note to Loe, which came this morning, provoked rather a strong reaction; as no doubt you intended, especially on the point about your not having kept hours for you [her].  She speaks of telegraphing to you.  I think she will surely be in Vienna on the 18th.

I am eager to hear the result and decisions of yesterday's meeting with Ferenczi, and to know something of the problems that are besetting you.  I am extremely sorry that a depressing letter from me should have come at such a time, and am glad to be able to send you a much better report.  My depression was chiefly of an internal nature, which is now mending, and you must discount it on that account.

The London Psycho‑Analytic Society was duly constituted last Thursday, with a membership of nine,«FN1.××The Society was founded on 30 October.  The announcement and list of members is contained in «MDUL»Zeitschrift«MDNM», 2(1914):411.

» and I have written to Jung applying for admittance into the Vereinigung«MDUL»«MDNM».  Bryan is Vice‑President and Eder secretary.  I arranged this, because Eder knows the Vienna men and can write German somewhat, and because I would rather be succeeded later by Bryan, who is a very reliable man, than by him.  McDougall and Hart have not yet joined, but did not refuse.  Our first working meeting will be held on December the 4th.

I have eight patients applying for treatment, some of which will surely come.  Other signs as well point to my practice being well assured within a short time, so that your prognosis was more correct than mine.  I spoke last week at the Psychiatric Section of the Royal Society and was warmly applauded.«FN1.××Jones participated in the discussion following the paper by Charles A. Mercier, "The Concept of Insanity," Section of Psychiatry, 28 October 1913, «MDUL»Proceedings of the Royal Society of Medicine«MDNM», 7‑3(1913‑14):3‑12.  For a summary of Jones's comments, see p. 13.

»  I am arranging to make the «MDUL»Journal of Abnormal Psychology«MDNM» the official organ of the Psycho‑Medical Society here,«FN1.××This was accomplished for the period April/May 1914 ‑ December 1920/March 1921.  The journal still retained its status as the official organ of the American Psychopathological Association in America.

» which will help to bring a wider circle under our influence.

I am feeling personally much happier in every way, and am starting proper work; Rank will tell you that I have already been active in regard to the «MDUL»Zeitschrift«MDNM».

There are a number of technical questions I want to ask you concerning the Zwangsneurose«MDUL»«MDNM» article you are publishing in the next number,«FN1.××Freud (1913i).

» but I will wait until you are having a more peaceful time or until I hear from you about the current matters you refer to in today's letter.

Yours always  Jones.
