Dear Professor Freud,
«IP4,0»The portrait arrived safely, and I am very proud. It is a beautiful reproduction. I hope the copper etching will be a success.
You speak of the «MDUL»Jahrbuch«MDNM» appearing on only July the 14th. I wondered if this was a mistake for January, but perhaps it means that Jung is completing this volume so that we may start fair on a clean sheet.
I think of leaving here tomorrow week, reaching Vienna on Sunday morning, the 21st, and staying there 5‑6 days. If, however, your time will be less occupied after your return than before your departure I could postpone my journey until then; if this is the case I beg you to let me know.
I have been coaching a doctor for the M. D. London, Psychiatry Branch. In the psychology paper four questions only out of six may be answered, and McDougall, the examiner, set four questions on |×/. My man swept the board and I hope may get the gold medal. It will be some time before Berlin, Paris, or Vienna emulate the example of London University in this! On the other side I enclose a programme that shows how the conception of anxiety neurosis is apprehended by an asylum superintendent in London. I made fine play with him at the meeting.
Dr. Hamill of Chicago is coming to study with you in the spring, and I have advised him to be analysed. He is a member of the American Association, but I do not know much of him.
Abraham sent me today his Jung Kritik, and I have just returned it with comments.«FN1.××Abraham (1914).
» It is difficult to write on Jung without showing affect; as one reads one gets more and more angry at one stupidity after another. I find Abraham's review very good, a little uneven, but splendid in several lucid passages. I am eager to see what you have added to my review of Jung, and am surprised that you have crossing [crossed] nothing out; it has not come yet.
I am sending your daughter a book of Kipling's that she could not get, also your son Ernst a book that I read recently and which I think will interest him, for I know of his activity at the Zionist Congress in September.«FN1.××See «MDUL»Stenographische Protokolle der Verhandlung des Zionisten Kongresses«MDNM»: XI (Vienna, 2‑9 September 1913).»
I have had only a note from Loe, and am delighted she has resumed work.
With kindest regards, and looking forward to seeing you soon, yours Jones.
