Friday night           6 September 1912  Partenkirchen

Dear Professor Freud,

«IP4,0»I am happy to hear from your telegram«FN1.××Telegram missing.» this evening that the news is already better, and I warmly trust you will soon be relieved of all anxiety.  It must have been a bad blow that such a Krankheitsanlass [disease cause] should have proved so unfortunate in its consequences.

I need hardly tell you how disappointed I was when I got your letter, and my wife will surely feel the same way.  The reality of life deals some hard shocks to the Lustprinzip at times, and this one is not one of the least.

We leave here in the morning, and I will get your letter (forwarded) in Zurich, probably on Sunday.  I am still hoping that you will be able to come in a week or so, when all goes well, and beg of you to do so if it is at all possible and convenient to you.

Seif comes with me from Zurich to London for a week or so.  He had overcome many inner difficulties and is anxious to make your better acquaintance.  I am sure he will be a valuable support, and he is also a good fellow personally.

I shall of course write to you about the affairs in Zurich, which promise to be interesting.  I have already read the Vorträge.  Bleuler über das Unbewusste ist das [die] alte Geschichte, d. h. Vorbewusste.«FN1.××Bleuler "on the unconscious, the same old story, namely the pre‑conscious."  See Eugen Bleuler, "Das Unbewusste," «MDUL»Journal für Psychologie und Neurologie«MDNM», 20(1913):E89‑E92.

»  Adler's theses are an exquisite self‑analysis that is most interesting.  Maeder has some good thoughts on the functions of the dream.  Seif and I both talk about Angst.«FN1.××Alfred Adler, "Das organische Substrat der Psychoneurosen," «MDUL»Zeitschrift für die gesamte Neurologie und Psychiatrie«MDNM», 13(1912):481‑491; A. Maeder, "Über das Teleologische im Unbewussten," «MDUL»Journal für Psychologie und Neurologie«MDNM», 20(1913):E101; L. Seif, "Zur Psychopathologie der Angst," «MDUL»Zeitschrift«MDNM», 1(1913):95‑99; and Jones (1913b).

»

I send my deepest goodwishes for a quick recovery of the patient, and a release to you from anxiety.

Aufwiedersehen,  hoffentlich bald.  Yours  Jones
