Dear Professor,

I am sorry the account I gave in the Rundbriefe was not quite clear and so will expand it.  There are two separate matters to be kept distinct, only the second one of which concerns you directly; the first I described as a matter of general interest and information.

1. Woolf will pay us £200 for the four volumes.  From this we have to pay various expenses such as typing, etc., royalties to the Verlag and yourself.  There will remain a sum of about £40 (I do not yet know the precise figure) and we decided to allocate this in the proportions of five‑eigths to Mrs. Riviere and three‑eigths to the Stracheys.

2. Now as to the royalty due to you.  The sum for the first two volumes is the same as for the Verlag, namely £26‑18‑5.  For the second two volumes, due only when they appear (we have not yet been paid by Woolf), it will be £30‑13‑9.  I understand that you have been good enough to allocate this money to the translators, but a certain confusion arises from the circumstance that in one letter you had said it was to be divided between Mrs. Riviere and Mr. Strachey, and in another between Mrs., Riviere, Strachey und anderen.  Will you please let either Mrs. Riviere or myself know your final decision about the persons to whom you wish the money paid and the respective proportions?

Yours always cordially,  [Ernest Jones]«FN1.××Not Jones's signature, but signed "Ernest Jones" and initialed by secretary.»
