Dear Professor,
«IP4,0»Eitingon has probably reported at length to Martin the results of our long talk in Berlin, so I need not repeat the details. Our "Verlag's Sub‑Committee" in London has met again since my return and we are making a report to the meeting of the Society next Wednesday asking them to accept a resolution cordially supporting your appeal and offering to make the same subscription as the Vienna group has recently done.«FN1.××Jones reported to the Verlag«MDUL»«MDNM» Sub‑Committee on 18 May 1932, making a motion that the British Society support Freud's appeal that the Verlag be transferred from private hands to those of the Interntional Psychoanalytic Association, and recommending a subscription fee of fifteen schillings per member. The general principles of the motion were accepted unanimously, with minor ammendments being proposed regarding the subscription. Recorded in «MDUL»Scientific Minutes«MDNM» (October 1929 to May 1939), Archives of The British Psycho‑Analytical Society, London, pp. 81‑82.»
Even if this favourable standard is widely maintained, however, I am afraid it will only bring about half the total sum required. We have therefore still to count on the unknown American uncle. We must be prepared to consider an extensive reorganisation of the system under which the Verlag will be conducted in the future, for it is plain that the past system is simply impossible. I suppose the wisest thing will be for the Congress to appoint a small representative Committee who will have full powers, and also full data of the donations by that time, to deal with the situation which will then be imminent.
I am also in communication with Brill who is doing all he can in the matter.
With my kindest regards, Yours always, Ernest Jones
